The Long Beach Community Defense Network (CDN) is a community-run rapid response network that mobilizes trained community members to the scene of an ICE pick-up or potential deportation in Long Beach. The CDN includes community members who will film ICE agents, connect individuals to legal services, and alert others as requested to help prevent any deportation.

The network is a direct response to the surge of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids tearing apart immigrant families and creating familial and financial hardships within the community.

People witnessing an ICE raid/pick-up or those with knowledge of an upcoming raid/pick-up can alert the CDN by calling (562) 269-1083. Dispatchers will use these tips to direct CDN Observers in the immediate area to the scene of the incident.

CDN offers community support even after incidents happen: Dispatchers notify families of detainees and connect them with legal assistance, while CDN Observers use recordings and notes captured at raid sites for possible legal use. The CDN Network Observers will provide family support and reach out to media and elected officials to raise visibility and help fight the detention and/or deportation of the individual.

The CDN is made up of dozens of individual community members throughout the city of Long Beach who act as dispatchers or observers. The network is supported by the following organizations and part of the Sanctuary Long Beach campaign:

  • Latinos in Action California
  • Long Beach Forward
  • Long Beach Immigrant Rights Coalition
  • Long Beach Sacred Resistance
  • Greater Long Beach Interfaith Community Organization
